Culottes: Year-Round Chic

I’ve recently gained a greater appreciation for pants. Weird thing to say, but it’s true. After liberating myself from the mindset that skinnies are my only option, I’ve become infatuated with all types of lower-body options: tailored trousers, wide-leg bloomers, joggers, flares, and culottes.

I’ve taken a particular liking to culottes since living in Italy. There is something about them that is so effortlessly chic; they instantly make any outfit more fashion-forward. What even are culottes, you ask? Essentially, cropped wide-leg pants.

When I arrived here in late August, I saw them worn with sandals and tank tops, which made an otherwise casual outfit very elegant. As summer morphed into fall, culottes survived the change in seasons. Sandals were replaced with booties and loafers; tank tops with leather jackets and peacoats. These pants really know how to withstand the test of time and temperature.

Below I’ve curated some outfit inspo for how to rock these bottoms all year round.

Spring

As temps start to rise, a whimsical top and sneakers are ideal for a city stroll. Pair with bold sunnies for a standout ‘fit.

Winter

Nothing is quite as cool as a fur coat. Paired with denim bottoms, the “winter in Moscow” top half gets a millennial update.
